Accessibility
DenialHelp is built for patients who are already navigating a stressful insurance denial. We work hard to make the appeal process usable for everyone — including patients who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or magnification.
Our target
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance across the public site and the appeal-intake flow. The ApprovalHelp clinician surfaces aim at the same standard.
What's built in
- Skip-to-content link on every page (visible on focus).
- Visible
focus-visiblerings on every interactive element. - Form inputs paired with explicit
<label>elements; error banners announced withrole="alert". - Modal dialogs (the “Ask DenialHelp” search and the upload pickers) use focus trapping, ESC to close, and focus restoration on close.
- Language switcher between English and Spanish (top right). Cookie-stored preference.
- Color contrast pass: most text meets AA; the hero gradient on the home page is a known visual flourish below the body-text floor and is paired with a non-gradient h1.
- Heading order checked top-to-bottom on every public page.
- Keyboard-only navigation works end-to-end through intake → payment → letter download.
Known gaps
- The home-page demo video does not yet have captions. Generating Whisper-VTT captions is on the active roadmap.
- Some
/help/SEO article pages may use color-only emphasis inside payer-name pills; addressed incrementally.
If a part of DenialHelp blocks you from completing an appeal, we consider that a defect, not an inconvenience. Tell us and we will fix it.
Report a barrier
Email hello@denialhelp.com or use our support form. Please include the page URL, the browser and assistive tech you're using, and a short description of what blocked you. We respond within one business day and will help you finish your appeal by phone or email while we fix the underlying issue.
Standards we test against
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA (W3C)
- Section 508 (US federal procurement; relevant when serving CMS-eligible patients)
- 29 U.S.C. § 794d when applicable
How we test
Automated runs (pa11y + Lighthouse) execute weekly across the critical surfaces, with human review of any new findings. Manual screen-reader testing (NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS + iOS) runs before any change to the intake or payment flow.
Accessibility statement last reviewed 2026-06-02. We update this page when we change a flow or close a known gap.
