Good Faith Estimate (GFE)
An estimate uninsured and self-pay patients are entitled to before scheduled care, required by the No Surprises Act.
A Good Faith Estimate is a written estimate of expected charges for scheduled healthcare services. The No Surprises Act requires providers to give a GFE to uninsured or self-pay patients before scheduled care (3 business days if scheduled 10+ days out, or upon request). If the final bill exceeds the GFE by $400 or more, the patient can dispute through the Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution (PPDR) process.
