RARC (Remittance Advice Remark Code)
A supplementary code on EOBs that adds detail to a CARC denial.
RARCs are alphanumeric codes (M1, N4, MA01, etc.) that supplement CARCs. Where a CARC explains the primary reason for the adjustment, the RARC adds specificity — which authorization number was missing, which day of the inpatient stay wasn't covered, etc. Some RARCs are 'alert' codes informing of appeal rights or other procedural notices.
